We met in January 2005 when my cousin came to town and Mike very reluctantly came out to hang out with Aaron (my cousin) and my roommates from Ohio State. A few days later Mike called to ask me out on a date and we made plans to get dinner and see a comedy act downtown. Toward the end of the conversation Mike discovered that I was not 20 as he had thought, I was only 18. A few days later he called to politely cancel our date. He just didn’t feel comfortable dating an 18 year old being that he was 25 at the time.
A few weeks later I messaged him on AIM to ask a question thats sole purpose was a chance to talk to him. Several AIM conversations later he called to ask me out on a real date.
We spend a few months together and then it was time for me to move back to Mansfield for the summer. In late July my step-mom, Pat, passed away. It was by far the most difficult few days and then months of my life. She had been sick for sometime, but none of us were ready to lose her. Mike was so supportive and understanding and after that I knew he was a by the end of the summer I was ready to move back to the big city and to no longer have the long distance relationship, even if it was only one hour away.
The end of summer meant the begining of fall and we were ready for OSU football season! We tailgated with the Homebase crew at a House not too far from Lane Avenue. Then came winter and our first Christmas together.
